Career Description

The Manager, Cost Optimization, will be responsible for identifying and executing cost optimization opportunities in Prepared Foods, with primary focus on Foodservice BU categories. Through close collaboration with R&D, Plants, Supply Chain and Finance, this role will identify new savings pursuits, develop scope, schedule and savings value and liaise with business teams to obtain alignment and drive execution. Responsibilities will include managing Prepared Foodservice cost savings intake approach and aligning on priorities with Category Management partners. As Manager, Cost Optimization, this role is the end to end owner of assigned projects, including gate reviews, scope development, P&L execution, capital requests, on time execution and savings capture. Additionally, this role will partner with Network Strategy on operations network assessments and associated optimization opportunities to drive game changing, process improvements and cost savings execution. In support of Sr Manager, Cost Optimization, this position will develop pipeline of Foodservice cost savings projects that will deliver 3 year SP and AOP targets as well as opportunities for efficiency through sku optimization/rationalization. This position will collaborate cross functionally across the enterprise, and the ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of operations network coupled with a keen ability to lead and influence functional teams and varying levels within the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Owner and primary driver of Prepared Foodservice cost optimization projects
    • Working with cross functional team members, develops business case (brief) and financial justification (P&L) for cost savings project opportunities.
    • Presents through project governance approval with Foodservice leadership for approval alignment and prioritization.
    • Project lead and owner who will set strategic direction and own decision rights on projects with close collaboration with BU P&L owner.
      • Collaborate with Engineering and Finance to initiate, track and execute CIRs with required signatories.
      • With Network Strategy and Co-Man, develop production start up plan and provide in plant support at start up
    • Savings capture and rollup into monthly financials
    • Lead monthly BU Best Cost tracking sessions to ensure planned savings is actualized – escalate for issue resolution/decision needed
    • Typical workload will be 25-30 cost savings projects of varying complexity and savings valuation
  • Develop long range strategies for large scale cost optimization pursuits and ensure appropriate coordination and work management to execute on time.
    • Collaboration with Process Engineering on technology scaleability that will contemporize our manufacturing processes and drive savings optimizations.
    • Liaison between BU and R&D resources with Network Strategy and Co-Man to evaluate current network, contract terms and build long range plans for large scale project implementations, including process changes, line and plant network changes.
  • Develop Best Cost savings targets and support building a pipeline of cost savings that will deliver targets over the 3 year SP in conjunction with R&D, Operations, Cost Savings Strategy and Finance.
    • Supports cost savings ideation sessions to brainstorm opportunities to drive out costs.
    • Liaise with Engineering in identifying cost savings capital and expense needs for SP and AOP budget development.
    • Where applicable, support CI led ideation sessions to uncover inefficiencies and identify new potential savings initiatives.
  • Lead cost savings driven network assessment and asset optimization with cross functionals to ensure capacity, workflows and infrastructure will support delivery of cost savings strategy and initiatives.
    • Partner with Operations, Engineering and R&D to develop network strategy, create production flows, identify gaps in existing capabilities and evaluate capital pursuits.
  • Support BU portfolio sku assessment and evaluate opportunities to drive out costs through sku optimization and rationalization.
Education: Bachelors degree required, preferably in business, engineering, manufacturing or finance
Experience: 4 + years experience in manufacturing, engineering, supply chain required with Bachelor’s Degree; 8+ years experience in manufacturing, engineering, supply chain required in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree Experience in Food or CPG industry, as well as working across BU and in field operations teams, a plus. Process knowledge, including stage gate, capital appropriation, annual planning required.
Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office, with particular emphasis and skill in Excel and Access. Previous experience in ERP systems, including SAP, a plus.
Communication Skills: Influence management skills with the ability to lead cross functional resources without direct reporting relationships. Action oriented self starter that is able to drive complex projects required. Strong project management and organization skills required. A thought leader with continuous improvement mindset to uncover gaps and implement value added solutions required. Collaborative, supportive communication approach
