Career Description


This position is responsible for various day-to-day tasks in the laboratory including working with avian blood or other tissues, poultry house and hatchery environmental samples including fecal, feathers, and dust. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include: Media preparation according to written directions; Sample preparation, log in, and documentation of test results; Equipment maintenance, calibration, and minor adjustments and repairs; Demonstrate the ability to work well independently or in a small group situation; Prepare media and solutions by following written directions requiring volume measurements and weight measurements using electronic balance and scales.


Education: Associates Degree in Science or 2 years of technical training in a laboratory related position.

Experience: Two (2) years plus of related experience.

Computer Skills: Intermediate computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and other Web-based programs.

Supervisory: None.

Travel: None.

Biosecurity: When visiting jobsites/biosecure environments, showering before entering the facilities is required. The lab jobsite requires showering when leaving the facility at least twice during a full work day. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsites except for medical ID jewelry. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds). The Company Animal Welfare Policy must be followed at all times.

Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, talk or hear. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Required to work on concrete, potentially wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dusty, and cold environments. Personal Protective Equipment Required: Gloves, and eye goggles. Ear protection as needed. Chemicals Commonly Used: Hydrogen Peroxide based Disinfectants, Alcohol solvents, Quatanary Ammonia based solutions, formaldehyde, (insecticide and herbicide usage at some locations).
