SUMMARY:

Reporting to Associate Director, Procurement, this position is responsible for strategic and tactical management of a Procurement category tower. It will involve team leadership, collaboration with key business leadership and stakeholders, formulating value realization and customer satisfaction strategies, and developing procurement programs and approaches for multiple categories in Corporate Function areas (including but not limited to Sustainability, Legal, Finance, Accounting, and Insurance). The successful candidate must be able to focus on balancing superior service to internal business clients with maximized value for the company of items/services purchased. This position will drive the Business Unit strategy and agenda across Corporate Indirect Procurement through effective communication and interaction within the company. Direct responsibilities of the function include: fostering strategic relationships with key leaders in the business at the leadership level in line with categories listed above; acting as positive challenger/influencer; applying procurement best-practices in order to achieve optimal balance of financial benefit and healthy, sustainable supplier relationships; working with Procurement peers to ensure support of and alignment to the supported function; management of resources (specialist/analyst roles). Duties of the position will include supporting management's vision for the execution of Procurements multi-year plan; executing the procurement life cycle for categories personally accountable as well as oversight for direct peers' categories; participation in frequent steering meetings to measure and discuss supplier performance relative to Tyson's performance expectation; developing Continuous Improvement strategies for the responsible categories and directing resources relating to project management; executing strategies that will develop the supplier-Tyson relationship, while continuously fostering this model to support proactive technology and innovation ideas that will ensure the competitiveness of Tyson in the marketplace. This position will also be responsible for measuring and reporting category savings on a quarterly basis. This will include a savings analysis compared to established goals and objectives for the category. This position will be responsible for monitoring commodity market activity and conditions to determine overall strategy to eliminate the cost impact to the Tyson Foods Company. This position will require market forecasting for budgets and analyzing budget versus actual costs. Key competency expectations for the role are the ability to deeply understand and utilize most procurement processes, tools, and systems, execute & oversee lifecycle management process, be a proven expert in category planning, development & execution, as well as ability to achieve tangible results in competitive and non-competitive supplier negotiations both directly and as a coach to others. Procurement category knowledge and experience in the areas of Corporate Sustainability and Consulting are a must; Legal, Finance, Internal Audit, Insurance, and Tax procurement experience is a plus.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field or equivalent experience a must; MBA desirable
  • 10+ years of procurement experience in related field in category focus areas as listed above, and familiarity with business and contract law as applied to supplier relationships required; Exposure to global sourcing is a plus.
  • Standard computer skills; experience in spreadsheet, database and statistical analysis are necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; formal presentations are required.
  • Strong negotiating skills; ability to multi-task, attention to detail, organized; exemplary customer service skills; judgment to handle confidential information and challenging business situations; ability to lead and influence others; effective and proven strategic planning, project management, problem solving, leadership and team building skills.
  • Responsible for supervising a small team of personnel (1-2 full-time resources)
  • 12 or fewer trips a year.
