Career Description

The Sr. Category Marketing Manager role is a general management position focused on growth and profitability of product categories in foodservice. Primary responsibility is to develop, implement, and execute the product category strategies to achieve the objectives of the company's annual and long range business plan. This role has day-to-day responsibility for leading the P&L management of all category-related activities including product forecasting, establishing pricing guidelines and approval, development of marketing initiatives, managing a team toward achievement of category goals and financial objectives, and management of cross functional project teams. Candidates should be adept at leading cross functional teams that include R&D, Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, and Marketing functional support.

General Management/P&L Accountability:
Owns the P&L for assigned category including the development of category financial targets and attainment of top and bottom line commitments. Makes decisions on all levers of P&L including cost structure, category pricing, product mix, and COGS, in order to drive optimal top and bottom line performance. Responsible for driving sales and operations volume forecasts on a monthly cycle by building consensus with appropriate parties

Category Strategy/Marketing:
Develop long and short-term category strategies and tactics to maximize growth and profit, including short term innovation projects and cross-functional work with Innovation team on long-term category innovation. Garner category insights using primary and secondary research with Insights team. Provide guidance and coaching to the Sales organization on category strategy/selling propositions and works closely with Channel Marketing, Sales Operations, Sales, and Culinary Support on business development opportunities. Engage with internal and external Creative & Communications to develop category selling tools, development and execution of promotional initiatives and sales communications. Monitor industry trends, market share, competitive activity and competitive product cuttings.

Operations/Product Management:
Closely monitor product availability and service levels and pro-actively communicate relevant issues with Sales. Engage with Supply Chain team to evaluate and understand any inventory, capacity, and/or quality issues at the plant and product level. Demonstrates solid knowledge of the input raw material markets and margin management to control volatility and the spread in order to manage bottom line results. Responsible for optimizing product assortments and discontinuing inefficient items. Lead product change projects including value/quality improvement initiatives and line extension product launches in close partnership with value improvement. Includes some degree of travel: customer visits, plant visits, sales meetings, conferences and trade events

Education: Bachelor degree in a business, marketing foodservice or related discipline required MBA preferred.

6-7 years of experience in marketing and/or related field

Special Skills:
Knowledge of foodservice and/or CPG industry preferred. Ability to develop strategic plans and annual business plans that align resources to achieve the marketing and financial goals. Strong financial acumen. Strong category marketing and general business management skills. Ability to assess the skills and developmental needs of subordinates and provide appropriate coaching and guidance. Strong leadership skills with the ability to create and articulate a vision and drive results. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to excel as a project leader in a fast paced, changing environment.
